From the Rising of the SUN

Sunlight Dancing in the Clouds

This Forager’s Heart (Wild Meditations)

“From the rising of the sun to the setting of the sun, the name of the Lord is to be praised.”       Psalms 113:3

This morning the mountains were shrouded with a thick cloud layer.  The sunrise is happening on schedule but is not the dramatic roll out I had hoped for, instead thru the holes in the clouds above me light is dancing on their water vapors illuminating the heavens.

Transfixed by the magic of the moment I listened eagerly to the swelling chorus of birds and crickets singing their praises.

Day Dawning

After watching the sun rise over the mountain ridge the collies and I took off for a hike up the mountain and into the hardwood forest.  My neighbor that lives up there remarked how he often talks loudly to his boarder collies while hiking in the woods so as to forewarn bears of their presence.  So with that thought in mind and the words to Psalms 113:3 in my heart. I made up a simple song that I sang to Skipper and Chippy as we foraged through bear territory!  Here are the words:

From the rising of the sun to the setting of the sun the name of the Lord shall be praised.
Be praised be praised the name of the Lord shall be praised
Refrain
For his mercies are new every morning his compassion is new every day
Refrain
He is the Alpha and Omega the Beginning without end
From the rising…

The Clouds are Rolling Out

By the time we came home with pockets bulging with green gifts I had gone through the alphabet citing names of God from A to Z.  Praising is good for the soul!  It shrinks life’s challenges into perspective!  Here is one version of the MANY names of God that I dwelt on as we hiked along.  God is so vast, it is not possible to put Him in a definable box. However, He does reveal Himself through His Word, the Bible and through His world, creation.

God is all this and so much more…

The simple tune kept stuck in my head throughout the day and I just knew I had to share it.  Kendall, my 10 year old niece, joyfully consented to sing it as my brother videoed the sun going down over Cass Lake in northern Minnesota.
