Japanese Dodder Vine on the Move

The below monologue is not about an edible plant, though it does resemble spaghetti, it isn’t even about a plant that I like.  I have a deep aversion to this plant and since I have been forced to spend SOOOOO much time with it… I decided to blog about it.    It is called Japanese Dodder Vine (Cuscuta spp)  a particularly striking member of the Convolvulaceae family.  It’s common names are: the vampire plant, lovevine, strangleweed, hellbind, goldthread, witches shoelaces and devil’s guts. This Forager’s Heart (Wild Meditations)

“From the rising of the sun to the setting of the sun, the name of the Lord is to be praised.”       Psalms 113:3

This morning the mountains were shrouded with a thick cloud layer.  The sunrise is happening on schedule but is not the dramatic roll out I had hoped for, instead thru the holes in the clouds above me light is dancing on their water vapors illuminating the heavens.

Transfixed by the magic of the moment I listened eagerly to the swelling chorus of birds and crickets singing their praises. [Read more…]
